In Leh, a protest demanding Sixth Schedule protections and statehood for Ladakh turned deadly as police allegedly opened fire, resulting in four fatalities and 58 injuries. The violence, the first since Ladakh became a Union territory in 2019, erupted after frustration over delayed talks and perceived government inaction on promised safeguards.
