Gill's Captaincy Receives Brutal Review After IPL Exit: "You Can't Drop..."

After Gujarat Titans' (GT) bowed out of IPL 2025 with a 20-run defeat to Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Eliminator, former India batter Robin Uthappa said the Shubman Gill-led side cannot expect to win the championship if they suffer catching lapses and suffer due to flaws in strategy. In New Chandigarh on Friday evening, GT dropped three important catches – two of which were of Rohit Sharma, who went on to make a dashing 50-ball 81. Suryakumar Yadav was also given a reprieve in the 12th over, as MI made 228/5. GT also got their middle overs enforcer Prasidh Krishna to bowl with the new ball, a tactic which backfired as Rohit and Jonny Bairstow came out all guns blazing in the powerplay. "GT's strategy was more reactive than proactive. Using Prasidh in the powerplay – despite his success in middle overs – was a misstep.” “His first over was expensive, and they failed to course-correct. The 26-run and 22-run overs proved costly. On top of that, their fielding let them down. Yo...

How Trump Administration Targeting Chinese Students Was Years In The Making

The United States' plans to “aggressively” revoke visas for Chinese students did not happen in a day. US President Donald Trump and his allies had been laying the groundwork for this since years. In 2023, in a campaign trail, Trump vowed to ban “Christian-hating communists, Marxists and socialists” from the country, shut down China-funded Confucius Institutes on U.S. college campuses and even prosecute Chinese scientific researchers and professors working at US universities.  “The president laid it out there in the campaign… when he says he's going to do something in the campaign, he actually tries to do it,” said Ken Cuccinelli, who was Trump's deputy of Homeland Security during his first term, per a report by the Politico . “The reason people like me raised it in the first term is the reason you're hearing from Rubio — there are very real security reasons to not help the Chinese advance their position in technical fields, and certainly not anyone more closely assoc...

Why Donald Trump Cannot Build The Golden Dome Without Canada

United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday unveiled new details on his plan for a missile defence system known as "Golden Dome", which is estimated to cost a total of some $175 billion. The "Golden Dome" will be the first weapon the US puts in space, and it should be operational in about three years, by the end of his time in office, the President said. The System is meant to protect the United States from all kinds of missile or drone attacks, but Trump said that Canada has expressed interest in being part of it as "they want to have protection also." Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Wednesday his government is talking to the US about joining President Donald Trump's future Golden Dome missile defense program. "Is it a good idea for Canada? Yes, it is a good to have protections in place for Canadians," Mr Carney said. He also added, "We cooperate if necessary but not necessarily cooperate," Mr Carney said. NDTV Explains: India vs China In Race For Arctic Oil, Gas, Shipping Routes

Image
Welcome to the Arctic Circle . The race to 'conquer' the world's final frontier is gathering steam and India is gently but firmly positioning itself in that contest, one which China has also entered and which has been given added urgency by Russian military actions in 2014 (the Crimean War) and 2022 (invasion of Ukraine). The 'rewards' are staggering though - from oil and minerals to drinking water, from access to faster shipping routes to a possibly decisive upper hand in the global geopolitical and military arena. A remote and largely inhospitable region of the world, the Arctic has emerged as the next global geopolitical and geostrategic hotspot, possibly even the next battlefield, thanks to climate change and the warming of polar ice caps. But its strategic importance has never really been in doubt. It has, for the most part, been a question of access, specifically terrain so bleak it made extracting oil and other natural resources, navigating the waters, or...

When she had a fight with her mother after her Class X exams and walked out of the house, the main accused cajoled her into coming with him," he said. "He then confined her for two months and sexually assaulted her. When she got pregnant, he took her to another individual for an a...

ChatGPT Talks Man Out Of Quitting Job For 'Awful' Business Idea

A few weeks back, ChatGPT CEO Sam Altman called out the AI model for being too "sycophant-y" as it turned into a 'yes-man', instead of a rational chatbot. As the fixes were applied, it appears that ChatGPT is back to its best and helping users not take irrational risks. A Reddit user recently presented a business idea to ChatGPT, only to be told it was not a great venture and that he did not need to quit his job. The OP posted screenshots of the chat with the AI model, captioning it, "I told ChatGPT I was going to quit my job to pursue an awful business plan". "You know how some people have lids that don't have jars that fit them? What if we looked for people with jars that fit those lids. I think this would be very lucrative," read the pitch, posted in the r/ChatGPT subreddit. The chatbot responded with cautious optimism by calling the idea "a fascinating metaphor" and "kind of brilliant in a poetic way," before clarifyi...

"Pakistan Incorrigible, Lying Is Part Of Its Ethos": Ex-Army Chief NC Vij

The role of the Director General of Military Operations is in focus after the recent ceasefire between India and Pakistan was declared following a call between officers holding the rank in both countries.  The position, which also involves planning and overseeing military operations, was equally important - if not more so - when India and Pakistan fought the Kargil war in 1999. The man occupying the post at the time was Nirmal Chander Vij, who went on to become the Army chief in 2005 and was instrumental in the decision to construct a 740-km fence along the Line of Control.  In an exclusive interview with NDTV on Friday, General Vij (retired) said that, after Operation Sindoor - during which India struck terror bases in Pakistan, including the headquarters of the Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed - Islamabad has been sent a clear message that its nuclear bluff will not work anymore and that India will go to any extent to make sure its national integrity is safeguarded. "DRDO's Performance In Op Sindoor Was Stellar": Scientist In NITI Aayog

Image
Operation Sindoor was a true showcase of India's indigenous competencies developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation's (DRDO) deep capabilities, said Dr V.K. Saraswat, a missile scientist, who is a member (S&T) of NITI Aayog. All efforts to demolish DRDO should be buried once and for all, he asserted. The morale at DRDO, which is home to 5,000 scientists, was hit since two high-powered committees tried to restructure it at a mega level. In 2016, a government-mandated committee headed by Dr P Rama Rao, former secretary of the Department of Science and Technology, was constituted to conduct a comprehensive review of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). It led to the creation of seven technology domain-based clusters headed by separate Directors General. It only added to more bureaucracy, said Dr Saraswat.  Subsequently, in 2023, another nine-member committee was set up to "reform" the DRDO, headed by Dr K Vijay Raghavan, a b...

OnePlus 13s Is Tailor-Made for India's Compact Phone Needs: OnePlus CEO

Image
OnePlus 13s, the company's first compact smartphone ever, is all set to launch in India soon. Now, OnePlus is a brand that doesn't have a launch every month and has a very streamlined smartphone line-up catering to consumers in almost every price segment, starting at as low as Rs. 17,999 for the Nord CE 4 Lite to all the way to the OnePlus 13 at Rs. 69,999. With the 13s, OnePlus says it is addressing a key demand where, lately, consumers want a smartphone delivering flagship-level performance in a smaller form factor. However, OnePlus emphasises that "compact" doesn't mean sacrificing features. Additionally, Counterpoint published a consumer survey last month capturing the gaps in the market when it comes to compact smartphones. While OnePlus commissioned the survey, it was still a great way to gauge consumer reaction and check demand. Ahead of the company's big launch, Gadgets 360 got to speak to Robin Liu, CEO - OnePlus India, to understand why 13s and wh...
